Uniquely Columbia: New Food Trucks!

June 14, 2012

Columbia is never short on places to eat. From diners to fine dining, choices in our city number over 200. But some new establishments are giving a new meaning to eating on the go. Columbia is now home to three food trucks, and they’re taking the city by storm. Next time you’re visiting, be sure to track down one of these rolling restaurants.

Pepe’s

Looking for incredible, authentic Mexican food on the go? Look no further than Pepe’s.

Our mouth is watering already.

The trailer may look small, but Pepe’s is churning out food with tons of flavor and fans are taking notice. Serving up spicy nachos, an array of burritos and something called a candy tamale, Pepe’s has something to offer any Mexican food fan. Be sure to follow them on Facebook, where they post their lunch stop location each morning.

Fat Chick’s Chow Wagon

Up next is a truck that’s definitely worth chasing down. It’s also Columbia’s first food truck.

Catch this chick!

Serving up breakfast and lunch throughout Columbia, this food truck is always on the move. Fat Chicks offers daily casserole specials, homemade desserts (amazing brownies!), and delicious breakfast goodies. Fat Chicks runs a lunch route most days each week, so be sure to check out their online calendar to track them down and get your fix!

Sunflower Waffle Company

Sometimes all you need to do is specialize in one thing to keep the crowds coming. In this case, it’s chicken and waffles.

Chicken + Waffles = Amazing

While Sunflower Waffle Company operates mostly out of the kitchen at Mojos in the North Village, they’re mobile as well. But their location at Mojos offers the perfect spot to enjoy live music, a beautiful park space with picnic tables and, of course, waffles! While they’re in one spot for now, look for the Sunflower Waffle Company to be on the go soon.

Sometimes it’s nice to sit down and watch the world go by. But next time you visit Columbia, add a little adventure and track down one of these new uniquely Columbia favorites. Your stomach will thank you.

Have a Fantastic Father’s Day in Columbia

June 12, 2012

Dads can be notoriously difficult to shop for, so this Father’s Day, get him something uniquely Columbia! From time spent together to something to bolster one of his many hobbies, we have plenty of ideas that can all be picked up right here in CoMo. Get shopping and make this the best Father’s Day ever!

Get in on the Action!

Sometimes a gift doesn’t have to be wrapped up to be the best choice. In Columbia, there are plenty of experiences to be had with Dad.

Hit the Links: Play a round with Dad at one of Columbia’s picturesque courses.

Play with Paint: On Father’s Day weekend, head out to Boster Castle for a full day of paintball! Battle Creek Paintball offers open play on the weekends, and the Fantasy Fair will also be taking place on the grounds on Father’s Day weekend. The Future, past and even other dimensions converge and collide at Boster Castle for the Fantasy Fair! It’s all about family, food and fun!

An Active Afternoon: What do batting cages, mini-golf and go-kart racing have in common? You can find them all at Perche Creek Golf Center. A day of fun awaits at this facility where moving from one activity to another is easy! You can also take a break in their pro shop and hit a bucket of balls at their driving range.

A Classical Outing: Like music? Like classical music? Even if you think it’s not your thing, take Dad to the Hot Summer Nights concert, ‘Bluff Your Way into Classical Music’ at the Missouri Theatre. It’s a casual event for those who would go to concerts if the pieces weren’t so darn long. The Missouri Symphony Orchestra performs the best classics reduced to five minutes each. For the multi-tasker there will be a sports trivia quiz during the concert.

A Uniquely Columbia Gift!

If an afternoon in the sun isn’t your dad’s idea of fun, wrap up a fun present from one of these great Columbia spots.

-The Outdoorsy Type: Be it hiking, biking, golfing, snow-shoeing or any other activity, the outdoorsy type is easy to shop for in Columbia.

-The Tiger Fan: For the guy that bleeds black and gold, Tiger fans should have no problem getting stocked up with goodies. University Bookstore seems to have every Tiger item known to man and Tiger Spirit has been a mainstay in downtown Columbia for years.

-The Classic Guy: Sure a tie seems cliché but sometimes Dad needs a tie! For ties, dress shirts and more check out Bingham’s downtown to dress your dad in the finest duds. For the wine fan, check out Top Ten Wines. This local favorite is home to experts who will help you pick out a special mix just for Dad.

Near or far, these are just a few ideas to show your dad how much you care. And how much you love Columbia!
